The England international, according to reports by Sky Sports, is set to undergo a medical in Manchester before travelling to London to complete the move.

If all goes as planned, Lingard could complete the move by Friday, January 29, and will be eligible to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Lingard, despite rising up the ranks at Manchester United, fell out of favor under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has not made a single appearance in the Premier League this season.

Throughout the 2020/2021 campaign, rumors were rife that the 28-year old was keen on a move away from Old Trafford on loan to secure more first-team minutes.

Further reports indicate Lingard was pursued by Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, two clubs battling relegation, but he preferred a move to West Ham.

Taking into account the loan fee and Lingard’s wages, the move is set to cost about £3million.

Despite falling down the pecking order at United, Lingard had his contract with the Red Devils extended by a year thanks to a clause.

His deal currently runs until 2022 and it is believed United triggered the extension to protect his value to avoid a situation where he walks away from the club for free.

Solskjaer has been reluctant to release any United players owing to the team’s busy schedule in coming weeks.

In a recent interview, he seemed to suggest Lingard and his United counterpart Brandon Williams were still part of the squad, despite not being utulised for games.

"They're still part of the club, part of the squad, training well. No deal has been struck for any of the players yet going out - still a little period left, of course.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United lost to Sheffield United by 2-1 in a Premier League match played at Old Trafford.

Kean Bryan and Oliver Burke got the goals in each half for Sheffield while Harry Maguire scored United'sonly goal.

The Blades got their noses in front as Bryan was awarded the goal from a John fleck's corner kick which seemed to have gone off the head of Axel Tuanzebe. 1-0 it was after 25 minutes.
