Liverpool bounce back from a five-game winless streak to defeat Tottenham by 3-1 in a tough Premier League fixture.

Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane got their names on the scoresheet while Pierre-Emile Hoejbjerg scored the only goal

It was an incredible start of the game as Mane's one-two with Mohamed Salah saw him clear but could not hit the target in the opening minute of the game.

At the other end, Heung-Min Son benefitted from a Harry Kane's through ball and scored at the near post.

The Video Assistant Referee was checked and Son's foot was just offside, the goal was then ruled out.

Mane also had another chance to score but Hugo Lloris was equal to the task as he made a brilliant save to keep the scoreline at 0-0.

However, Liverpool took the lead from a defensive blunder as Mane's ball across the goal was misjudged by Eric Dier and Lloris and Firmino scored into an empty net to make it 1-0 at half time.

The second half was a completely different ball game as Alexander-Arnold was at the right place after Lloris spilled Mane's shot for the right-back to slam home the Reds second in the 47th minute.

Two minutes later, Hoejbjerg responded with a screamer from outside of the 18-yard area to put Spurs back into the game at 2-1.

Salah thought he had scored from a brilliant build-up but after looking at the VAR referee ruled a handball to Firmino.

But Mane finally got his goal five minutes after the hour mark from another defensive error from Tottenham as Rodon controlled Alexander-Arnold's cross in the path of the Senegalese strike to make it 3-1.

Liverpool now move within six points from league leaders Man City as they drag themselves back into the title race.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Sokratis Papastathopoulos has emerged as a surprise target for Liverpool following their defensive problems of late, Daily Mail reports

The Reds have been hindered with injury problems to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip who are all defenders.

This has forced Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to play in their unnatural positions at the back and has cost the Anfield giants a couple of matches this season.
