With the way things are going Chelsea could finish in a disappointing position at the end of the 2020-21 season despite spending over £200million on transfers, The Sun.

The Blues were recently beaten by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium which saw them slide even further to eighth on the Premier League table.

Frank Lampard's men are now nine points off the top team and have one of their lowest points totals at the halfway stage in the history of the topflight division.

Chelsea have found themselves in this position - 29 points from 19 games in the league on five occasions.

Four of those five times, the west London club have failed to finish above 10th in the English topflight division.

During the 1993-94 season, Chelsea recorded up 15 points from 19 games and ended up finishing 14th at the end of the campaign.

In the corresponding two seasons, they finished in 11th on the league standings, collecting 28 points from the first 19 matches.

In the 2014-15 campaign, the Blues ended in a disappointing 10th in the league with 20 points after gathering just 20 points at this stage of the season.

Chelsea are yet to defeat a team in the top eight of the division following the 2-0 loss to Leicester on Tuesday, January 19, 2020.

The Blues have only managed to keep five clean sheets in 29 Premier League away games during his reign, the lowest percentage of any Chelsea manager.

Lampard has been tipped to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked by te no-nonsense club owner Roman Abramovich.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Frank Lampard believes Chelsea are struggling to hit top form because they lack top quality players like Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and the likes.

The Blues' title chances have been shaky due to their poor run of result in recent matches and are now eight points off the top Premier League.

Chelsea spent over £200million on players but are languishing on seventh and Lampard has given his reason for the team's dip in form.
