Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona would have themselves to blame on Thursday night, January 9, after allowing Atletico Madrid to beat them 3-2 in Super Cup semifinal.
Barcelona started the match impressively in the first half with Arturo Vidal getting the first chance to score, but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Lionel Messi also had a chance to net in the 11th minute when he was set up by Luis Suarez, but he was unable to find the back of the net.
Koke scored the first goal for Atletico Madrid in the 46th minute after receiving a brilliant assist from Angel Correa.
But five minutes later, Lionel Messi restored parity for Barcelona after gaining from an assist by Luis Suarez before Antoine Griezmann gave the Catalans the lead in the 62nd minute via an header.
Former Chelsea star Alvaro Morata leveled up for Atletico Madrid in the 81st minute via a penalty before setting up Angel Correa five minutes later who scored the winner.
Atletico Madrid won the match 3-2 and they will now face Real Madrid in the final of the Super Cup.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Real Madrid were through to the final of this year's Spanish Super Cup following their 3-1 victory over La Liga side Valencia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia.
