Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has been branded as an average player in an unusual rant by Canadian football pundit Sid Seixeiro.

Sid Seixeiro claimed that the Argentina international was propped up by Xavi, Iniesta and David Villa at Barcelona stressing that he is now missing the impact of these three stars at the club.

Lionel Messi is considered by many to be the greatest football star of all time considering what he achieved since he began his career with Barcelona.

Speaking on Sportsnet’s Tim and Sid show, Seixeiro said: "Domestically, Messi has won everything there is to win at Barcelona. And he started at Barcelona at what, 13? He's won everything there is to win.

"Here's how you know what Messi's about. When they were winning the best things at Barcelona, it was Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, David Villa. That was a team.

"When they would break from 2008 on and go their separate ways for major tournaments, Xavi, Iniesta and David Villa, and all those Spanish guys from Barça, were winning tournaments. Euro 2008, World Cup 2010, Euro 2012.

"Messi, the second he steps on a field without that core, is average. And you have seen it in Copa Americas, seen it at World Cups,'' Sid Seixeiro explained.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has won all trophies with Barcelona, and the only thing left for him is the World Cup title and Copa America with the national team.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Lionel Messi was praised by football lovers for his sportsmanship after telling the referee not to award Barcelona a penalty in their La Liga win over Rayo Vallecano.

The Argentine football star had amazing run thereby beating two defenders before being brought down in the penalty box.
