
Calls For Restructuring In Nigeria







The House of Representatives has said its Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, is not opposed to the call by southern governors for the restructuring of the country.

Following a two-day northern summit, groups in the region have joined national calls for the restructuring of Nigeria. The groups made the statement in Kaduna.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo, one of the leaders of Afenifere, has said that it is only restructuring that can stop the call for secession by Sunday Igboho and others.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Saturday, April 3, told journalists in his hometown in Yobe that elites in Nigeria were behind the plot to divide the country.

Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, said Nigerian governors are enmeshed in a “centralised mentality”, adding that “they are afraid to come out of their cocoons”.

Abdulsalami Abubakar has warned that Nigeria could disintegrate if the security challenges currently witnessed in many parts of the country are not curtailed.
