It then went from bad to worse for Swansea after Jay Fulton was shown straight red in the second half for a dangerous challenge.

Unlike a year ago against Fulham, Thomas Frank's men more than rose to the occasion to reach the Premier League for the first time.

It is their first ever appearance since 1947, thereby becoming the 50th football team to play in the English topflight.

The celebrations began as their skipper Pontus Jansson lifted the play-off trophy to the delight of the handful of fans in the stadium.

Delighted striker Ivan Toney told SkySports:

“I’ve got no words. I said beforehand If we got a pen, there was no doubt what I was going to do.
“Even when they had 11 men, I didn’t think they created any chances. This is the best dressing room I’ve been in.
“I’m in the Premier League with the best bunch of boys.”
