Real Madrid earned maximum points with a 2-0 win over Eibar at the Alfred di Stefano Stadium in a La Liga fixture.

A goal on each half from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema was enough for Zinedine Zidane men for the victory.

Madrid played free-flowing football but were unlucky not to have scored up to four goals in the opening 45 minutes.

Casemiro was pulled down in the box as he was trying to finish off a cross from Marcelo but the referee gave the home side the spot-kick.

Later on, Asensio's set-piece from the right-wing hit the cross-bar as Eibar keeper Marko Dmitrovic looked on

The Serbia shot-stopper made a brilliant stop to prevent Benzema from scoring on a one-on-one situation.

Real though they had taken the lead after a shot from Isco was diverted in between the legs of Dimitrovic but the referee's assistant spotted the Spaniard in an offside position.

Asensio was not denied this time when he latched onto a through ball from Casemiro as he opened up his body to apply the finish. 1-0 to Madrid five minutes before half time.

The second half did not see many chances go Madrid's way as Zidane made wholesale changes starting from the hour mark.

And they were rewarded with the second goal courtesy of a pin-point cross from Vinicius Junior which was headed home by Benzema to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

Los Blancos move into second place on La Liga ahead of Barcelona who have played one game short.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Zinedine Zidane's position as Real Madrid boss is uncertain and the club have lined up legend Raul Gonzalez and German boss Joachim Low as possible replacements, Daily Mail.

The French gaffer's contract at the Spanish is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season as the club have struggled on the domestic scene.

Los Blancos trail city rivals and league leaders Atletico Madrid with six points but are still in contention for a Champions League berth.
