Gareth Bale was an unused substitute in Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in a crunch Premier League encounter earlier this week.

Jose Mourinho brought on the duo of Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela for Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn but never exhausted his substitutes slot.

However, after losing his third straight game, the North Londoners are languishing in the eighth position on the table which leaves their title contention in limbo.

And this has begun to put pressure on the 57-year-old tactician who started the season with a lot of promises having stayed at the top of the log for a couple of weeks before their performances nosedived.

Tottenham have gathered 33 points from 21 English topflight games - 14 points behind Manchester City at the summit of the table.

And after the match, Mourinho was asked why he refused to bring the Real Madrid on loan superstar at Spurs, but the Portuguese manager replied:

"Good question but you don't deserve an answer."

This is not the first time the former Manchester United handler will be giving journalists such answers especially when games don't go his way.

Bale returned to the Premier League club during the summer transfer window and has already scored three goals in all competitions.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has hit out at referee Andre Marriner for awarding a penalty against his side which saw Chelsea claim all three points on Thursday night, January 4.

The former Chelsea boss criticised the official as his side now lose three straight games against the Blues. The defeat also means Spurs have also lost their last two home games.

Jorginho scored the only goal from the spot in the 24th minute after Eric Dier tripped Timo Werner through a clumsy challenge from the Englishman.
