Premier League club Arsenal have announced the signing of goalkeeper Mat Ryan on a season-long loan deal from Brighton.
It was gathered that the Gunners had to sell Emiliano Martinez during the summer after club manager Mikel Arteta refused to guarantee him a starting shirt, despite his amazing form last season.
Alex Runarsson was then brought in to replace Martinez, but he also failed to convince the club boss following series of calamitous display, especially during their in last month’s Carabao Cup defeat against Manchester City.
And now, Matt Ryan who had been a regular in the Brighton team which has spent the last three-and-a-half years as a top flight team has joined Gunners having lost his place earlier this season to Robert Sanchez.
Explaining the rationale behind the deal, Arsenal’s technical director, Edu, said:
“Mat is an experienced goalkeeper, a proven talent in the Premier League and has also played many internationals for Australia.”
Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard is set to become the third Real Madrid player to move to the Premier League as the Danish midfielder is close to sealing a loan deal to Arsenal.
The 22-year-old has managed to be in Zinedine Zidane's starting XI in five matches after returning from a successful loan spell at Real Sociedad.
The midfielder was recalled from his loan spell at the end of last season after he flourished under Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil.
Odegaard has not been consistent in Zidane's selection leaving the player frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities.
It is understood that the midfielder had demanded for another loan move and it appears Mikel Arteta's side have won the race to sign Odegaard as Arsenal's technical director Edu has begun negotiations.
