Reports from London have it that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could be fired if the Blues lose to Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night, January 19.

The manager had been under intense pressure in recent times, and as the Blues play away at the King Power Stadium, nothing short of victory is expected by the Chelsea hierarchy.

Despite recent victories over Morecambe and Fulham, the manager has been under heavy criticisms following an earlier run of four defeats in six matches.

Lampard’s side now face formidable Leicester who are six points ahead of them in third position having gotten 11 points from their last five games.

Chelsea are yet to beat any of the top eight teams in the league this season and will be hoping to overcome Brendan Rodgers men.

According to The Athletic’s Simon Johnson, anything short of victory could see Lampard fired as Chelsea manager right after the game.

In an interview with talkSPORT’s Andy Goldstein, Johnson hinted that the former Chelsea captain could be axed if they lose the tie.

Chelsea were still being touted as potential title contenders at the start of December amid a nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

However ahead of the fixture, Lampard said – as cited in Daily Star:

“When people were touting us as title challengers, we do have the squad when you look at the composition of it — but it's very young, particularly in the forward areas.
“We don't have the history of players in those areas that this club has had before, who are goal machines or assist machines that win you games."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Spanish League giants Real Madrid have reportedly beaten the Premier League duo of Chelsea and Liverpool to the signing of veteran Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

The 28-year-old Austrian seems to have agreed to join Los Blancos after signing a pre-contract with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard had been linked with a move for the two-time Champions League winner whose deal expires at the end of the ongoing season.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City also showed interest in the experienced player but it ended up that they were not serious with their chase for him.
