Manchester City ran riot on Tuesday night, December 22, as the Citizens defeated Arsenal 4-1 right at the Emirates Stadium in the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners have now been eliminated from the quarter-final stage of the competition more times than any other side in the competition’s history.

It was a bizzare start for Mikel Arteta's men after Gabriel Jesus headed home the first goal as early as the 2nd minute.

Zinchenko had all the time and space in the world to whip a cross in from the left and Gabriel Jesus popped-up unopposed in the six-yard box to glance a header past Runarsson.

Arsenal restored parity through Alexandre Lacazette who headed into the far corner in the 32nd minute to put his side back into the game.

City restored their lead in the 55th minute after Riyad Mahrez wrapped a free-kick around the wall which was too hot to handle for the Arsenal goalkeeper as he spilled it into his own net. 2-1 City.

Barely four minutes later, it was 3-1 as Fernandinho's through pass released Phil Foden behind and he produced the deftest out finishes over Runarsson.

Aymeric Laporte completed the rout in the 73rd minute after Arsenal tried to play offside as City took a short corner but they got their defensive line all wrong as the unmarked Laporte got his head of Foden's in-swinging cross to take their tally to four.

And that was how it ended; Arsenal 1-4 Manchester City as the Gunners crash out of the competition.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Arsenal players are set to lose 25 per cent of their wages if they fail to stay up in the English topflight division

The Gunners are currently 15th on the log after managing one win in their last ten Premier League matches this season.

And if the north London club drop out of the top division, players would have to accept a pay cut to compete in the Championships next season.
