Manchester United legend, Paul Parker, has corrected the impression made by Sky News host Kay Burley that he played against the late Diego Maradona, Daily Star.
Several footballers and coaches around the world have been paying tribute to the legendary Argentinian midfielder who died on Wednesday, November 24, 2020.
However, Sky News have mistaken that Parker played against the football icon at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
And when Parker was asked by Sky News how it felt like to play against the former Napoli legend, the United legend then said:
“To be honest, I never had the opportunity to play against him.
“I just knew him as a footballer, seen him there on the touchline, watching him. He was somebody that I’d never seen before.
“Would I have wanted to play against him? Not in a million years, because he had strength, power, and more than anything he had a desire to be the best player ever.”
The news outfit also asked if both Parker and Maradona have ever crossed paths, the former England right-back gave a similar response.
“No, not at all, but you know exactly what he was all about just by the way he was around people.
“What he was off the pitch, was exactly what he was on the pitch. He wanted to be in control of everything.”
Parker represented England at the 1990 World Cup where the Three Lions were defeated by West Germany in the semi-finals and lost to Italy in third place playoffs.
