Dynamo Kyiv manager Mircea Lucescu sent social media into a frenzy when he was said to have approached Lionel Messi for his jersey after their Champions League clash at the Nou Camp.

The six-time Ballon d'Or was one of the goalscorers as the Catalans claimed a 2-1 victory over their Ukrainian counterpart earlier this week.

Messi grabbed the opener from the penalty spot just five minutes into the encounter while Gerard Pique sealed the win for the hosts in the 65th minute.

However, Viktor Tsyhankov's 75th-minute strike only ended up a mere consolation for the visitors who are currently third on the log.

SunSport claims Lucescu rushed to meet Messi to ask for his jersey after the referee sounded the final whistle.

Michelle Escobar, Optus Sport reporter was one of the people to comment on the situation on social media saying:

"My favourite moment from this morning’s #UCL action has got to be Dynamo Kyiv’s manager asking Messi for his jersey."

The second person expressed surprise seeing a manager ask for a player's jersey while the third admitted that he would replicate the same action if he was in the manager's shoes.

"First time I’ve ever seen a manager ask a player for his jersey."
"S*** I'd do the same that's history right there."
