The Etihad stadium came to life on Thursday night, September 24, as Manchester City engaged Championship side Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup third round.

It took the Citizens just 18 minutes to open the scoring through Liam Delap who found the back of the net in style before Sam Surridge drew level for the visitors four minutes later.

Both teams battled from the midfield matching eachother as they laboured for the lead, however it remained 1-1 at half time.

The second half was more intense as Bournemouth took the game to their opponents but they couldn't just get it right in the final third.

Sam Surridge had a glorious opportunity in the early moments in the second 45 minutes but could just not find the back of the net.

However the game was decided in the 75th minute courtesy a Phil Foden strike as he poked home from a rebound after Riyad Mahrez' strike came-off the wood work.

That goal was enough for Manchester City to win the game, however credit to Bournemouth as they put up a good show. It ended; Manchester City 2-1 Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz has silenced his critics following after scoring a hat-trick for Chelsea in their 6-0 thumping of Champions side Barnsley in the EFL Cup.

The German midfielder produced a man of the match performance at Stamford Bridge grabbing three goals in the comfortable win over the visitors.

The 21-year-old who completed a £70million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer finally got his account off and running on his third game as a Chelsea player.

Havertz had been criticized for not showing up in the Blues' Premier League games against Brighton and Liverpool.

However, Frank Lampard's side cruised into the 4th Round of the Carabao Cup and Havertz was delighted with his performance on the night.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Alex Iwobi was in top form during Everton's 5-2 win over Fleetwood Town in the 3rd Round of the Carabao Cup.

The Nigerian international made his first appearance for the Toffees in their similar scoreline against West Brom in the Premier League over the weekend after missing the win against Tottenham.
