Manchester United have confirmed that Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo will remain at the club until January 31, 2021 after agreeing terms with his parent club Shanghai Shenhua.

Team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed delight with the player’s parent club Shanghai Shenhua of China for allowing the 30-year-old to play for his boyhood club for another eight months.

Ighalo who arrived the Old Trafford club on the January transfer deadline day was poised to leave on May 31, but his reign at the club has been marred by lack of football, no thanks to the coronavirus crisis.

The former Watford striker earlier pleaded with the management of his parent club to allow him extend his loan with United officials, and after weeks of discussions, Manchester United have confirmed that the loan deal has been officially extended.

“They (Shanghai Greenland Shenhua) have been great towards us, allowing him to play for his dream club. It’s been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish what he started and win a trophy with us,” Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said.

And fans have continued to react to the news. While some agree it’s a welcomed development, others think otherwise.

“He was brought in to score goals. He scored goals. The club did their job, he’s done his job, so as a lifelong United fan I’m pleased he’s staying longer,” a United fan Steven Lawson tweeted,

“Seeing all the united fans happy about this lmao your expectations and standards have dropped so much,” @LFCMod wrote.

Gus M Rosenberg added: "Jeepers! Football fans have become so fickle. Why can’t signings be welcomed and celebrated. Each club has their own policies and direction, we just need to all chill and enjoy the game of football and our respective clubs with less ‘banter’ about a rival and opposition team."

"Smart move but I think @ManUtd should be looking to make this a permanent transfer. @ighalojude is the best no. 9 at the club," Daniel Smith said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that United's major target Borussia Dortmund youngster Jadon Sancho has joined the protest for the murder of black American man George Floyd.

The Englishman lent his voice to the growing list of athletes standing in solidarity for protection against 'black lives'.

Sancho scored three times against Paderborn in their Bundesliga clash on Sunday and the Manchester United target dedicated his first of the three to late 46-year-old murdered in Minneapolis earlier this month.
