- Harry Redknapp was recently linked with a move to the Super Eagles
- Two NFF chiefs have claimed that the Englishman is not wanted
- Gernot Rohr has eventually signed a new deal as the Super Eagles coach
Two big Nigeria Football Federation chiefs have rubbished the speculation that former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp would replace Gernot Rohr as the coach of the Super Eagles.
Before Gernot Rohr agreed a new deal with the NFF, there were reports that the country's football chiefs were considering hiring Englishman Harry Redknapp.
The rumor caused lot of arguments among football fans and pundits who were asking the rationale that would make the NFF be thinking about a 73-year-old as an option.
Harry Redknapp last job was managing English club Birmingham City where he was fired in 2017 following six straight defeats in all competition.
Since then, the former QPR coach has been without any club will reports claiming that he might have retired from coaching before the Super Eagles talk came up.
“The news is all a hoax as some people are trying to be mischievous.
“Even if Nigeria ever thought of having a new coach, it would definitely not have been Redknapp. Hiring him would mean returning the Super Eagles to the 1980s which is ridiculous.
“Our boys haven’t done badly under Gernot Rohr, so why should we dump him at this critical moment?'' NFF chiefs explained according to the report on GOAL.
Gernot Rohr has been coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria since he replace Sunday Oliseh in 2016 and has took the nation to two global tournaments.
