- Juan Mata highlighted Hazard’s ability to win games by himself as the reason he is the best
- The pair enjoyed 18 months at Stamford Bridge before Mata moved to Manchester United
- Hazard has since moved to Real Madrid where he has had a slow start
When it comes to the question of the Premier League’s greatest ever player, the jury is pretty much still out.
Depending on who you ask, you might get some surprising answers but at the same time there are the typical names you are also likely to come across.
The likes of Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and more contemporary ones including Sergio Aguero and Frank Lampard come to mind.
For Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, however, his pick for the best to ever grace the Premier League is none other than his former team mate Eden Hazard.
Mata played alongside Hazard for a brief spell at Chelsea before the Spaniard made the switch to Manchester United in 2014.
The 18 months spent with the Belgian were however enough to convince Mata that Hazard was indeed a talent to remember.
Speaking to the Manchester United official website, the 31-year-old tried to explain why he believed Hazard left a permanent impact in the Premier League.
"For me, for many years, he was the best in the league. He could win games by himself. I used to train with him and I know how good he can be,” he started.
Hazard moved to Real Mardid in the summer of 2019 but has in many ways been a shadow of his former self, with his ardent fans blaming his slump on his sudden weight gain.
But Mata still believes the Belgian will eventually hit his usual heights at Los Blancos despite not having the flying start he did at Stamford Bridge.
"He has been very unlucky in his time with Real Madrid with some injuries, but I’m sure he’ll show his real level when he’s fit to do that and he’s not injured,” Mata went on.
Despite ranking Hazard above other Premier League greats, Mata was keen to point out some outstanding talents he got the priviledge to work with including Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs.
"Ryan Giggs has to be up there, and Paul Scholes. My ex-team-mates from Chelsea: Lampard, Terry, Drogba. It’s very difficult to pick one," Mata said.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly planning to offload up to five players when the summer transfer window opens.
The players include Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez.
Jadon Sancho, Birmingham wonderkid Jude Bellingham and Jack Grealish are among the stars United are planning to buy in the summer.
