Reigning Spanish champions Barcelona defeated visiting Getafe 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, February 15, with Messi getting superb game.

Barcelona started the match impressively since they knew that a win could take them to the top of the standings pending the outcome of Real Madrid encounter.

They almost got the first goal in the 5th minute when Samuel Umtiti located Antoine Griezmann with a long pass only for the Frenchman to miss the chance.

Getafe also had their chance two minutes later when Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo supplied a brilliant pass for Jorge Molina, but he was unable to beat goalkeeper Marc Stegen.

Barcelona however scored their first goal in the 33rd minute through France international Antoine Griezmann who got a superb assist from Lionel Messi.

Sergi Roberto netted the second goal for Barcelona in the 39th minute after receiving a nice pass from Junior Firpo as the first half ended with the Catalans leading 2-0.

After the resumption for the second half, Getafe labored in the first five minutes looking for a goal with the duo of Etebo and Arambarri with attacks.

Jorge Molina fired a powerful shot in the 56th minute only for his effort to be blocked by goalkeeper Stegen.

The visitors however scored in the 66th minute through Angel Rodriguez who benefited from an assist by Jaima Mata as the match ended 2-1 in favor of Barcelona.

Earlier, had reported how Brazilian professional footballer Malcom took a swipe against his former club Barcelona on their over dependence on Argentina international Lionel Messi.
