- Jordan Henderson, 29, has won 2019 England men’s Player of the Year award
- The Liverpool star is a regular face in Gareth Southgate's Three Lions team
- Hernderson beat Man City's Raheem Sterling and Tottenham's Harry Kane to the award
Jordan Henderson, Liverpool skipper, has been named England men’s Player of the Year for 2019 ahead of his colleagues Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.
Henderson won the award for the first time, edging out the Manchester City and Spurs stars with his incredible stellar form for the Premier League giants Liverpool.
The 29-year-old midfielder has been a regular face in Gareth Southgate's side and passed his 50-cap for Three Lions England's 5-1 victory over Montenegro.
As captain, Henderson's leadership consistency saw Liverpool make a massive breakthrough in Europe, leading them to their historical sixth Champions League title win over Tottenham.
The ace midfielder was also instrumental to Liverpool's Super Cup victory over Chelsea and Reds' World Club Cup win over Brazilian side Flamengo.
Man City's Sterling, however, came second in the fans's voting as his 12 international goals for England in 2019 were not enough to ease him past the Liverpool ace.
Harry Kane came third despite scoring 12 goals and becoming the first Three Lions player to score in every game during the Euro 2020 qualifying matches.
Meanwhile, 2019 UEFA Women's Player of the Year Lucy Bronze was named England's women player of the year following her outstanding performance for Lionesses at the women's World Cup.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has again made it into the UEFA's fans' team of the year but his presence was ridden with controversy as fans believed the Juve star was shoehorned.
In the best XI list released by the football governing body in Europe, the Portuguese superstar comfortably booked his place upfront with Liverpool's Sadio Mane, Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi.
