- A goal each from lo Ceslo and Lamela handed Spurs crucial win over Championship side
- Tottenham will now battle Southampton in the next stage of the competition later this month
Two first-half goals from Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela were all Tottenham Hotspur needed to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup championship.
The victory was Spurs' first triumph in their last five matches across all competitions this campaign - baring in mind that the first meeting between the two ended in a 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, with Harry Kane missing from the starting line up due to injury, the hosts seem undisturbed without him as it took them just two minutes to register their first goal of the night.
Lo Celso opened scoring for the Lilywhites in the second minute after placing the ball into the bottom left corner of the post.
The 23-year-old benefited from Tomas Mejias' poor passing before intercepting the ball and then tucked it into the net.
Lamela doubled the home team's lead in the 15th minute after making a solo run from near the center of the pitch.
The Argentine battled for possession of the ball near the center circle and then ran past Borough's defenders before placing the ball into the left corner of the goalpost.
Meanwhile, all their efforts for the remainder of the first stanza failed to produce a goal, while the visitors could not replicate their performance from their previous meeting this month.
Mourinho made two attacking changes in the second half with Heung-min Son and Dele Alli coming on but they were unable to increase Spurs tally.
It almost looked like the Premier League outfit was going to keep a clean sheet but second-half substitute George Saville reduced his side's deficit in the 83rd minute.
