Arsenal kicked off the New Year on an impressive note following their 2-0 win over visiting Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners also gave their new boss Mikel Arteta his first victory since he was appointed late last year - having got his reign started with a draw and a loss to Chelsea in their last game.

Despite leading the game till the 83rd minute, the north London club relinquished their leadership after conceding two late goals from Tammy Abraham and Jorginho in the last game of 2019.

The only club to have gone unbeaten in the Premier League history, however, bounced back to winning ways barely four days after to ensure they set a good example for the new year.

Nicolas Pepe opened scoring for the home team in the 8th minute before Sokratis sealed the win for the Gunners just three minutes to the end of the first half.

As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were wasteful and failed to build on their last two victories over Newcastle United and Burnley.

Arsenal moved to tenth on the table after the win over the Red Devils and Arteta will hope he can continue with the winning mentality for the remainder of the season.

The Gunners travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday, January 11, for their next EPL fixture, but will battle Leeds United first in the third round of their FA Cup clash on Monday, January 6.
