Robert Lewandowski scores 36 goals to become top scorer in 2019

Polish forward Robert Lewandowski continued his scoring form for Bayern Munich after netting twice in their 3-2 win over Olympiakos in the Champions League.

Lewandowski, who netted a brace in Bayern's 7-2 bashing of Tottenham early in the month, has now taken his total haul to hit 21 goals in 17 appearances for both club and country this campaign.

His 18 goals in 13 games for Bayern sees him six goals clear of any other player in Europe's major leagues.

Since the start of 2019, Lewandowski's record stood at 36 goals in 36 matches for Bayern Munich, helping him topple the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, City duo Sterling and Aguero and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lewandowski has netted in his last 12 straight games for Bayern which stretches back to August after he scored the opener in a 3-1 win over Cottbus in the German Cup.

He has also scored two goals on 10 separate occasions for Bayern in 2019 alongside one hat-trick during the 3-0 win over Schalke in the Bundesliga back in August.

And another hat-trick during Poland win over Latvia in Euro 2020 qualifier this month.

The Polish forward’s brace on Tuesday night saw him topple Ruud van Nistelrooy in the all-time leading scorers of Champions League with 58 goals.

Meaning he’s just one goal short of Karim Benzema, Raul, Messi and Ronaldo.

At the last count, Lewandowski, who is one of the 30 shortlisted for this year's Ballon d'Or, has netted more than 40 goals with Bayern Munich for the past four campaigns.

Since arriving Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014, Lewandowski has netted 209 times in 255 club matches in total, seeing him close in on Messi and Ronaldo.
