Frenchman Kylian Mbappe was on target for Paris Saint-Germain when they defeated Marseille 3-1 during their Ligue 1 clash over the weekend.

The 2018 World Cup winning star opened scoring for the Parisians just before the referee sounded the whistle to signal the end of the first half of the game.

While the two other goals that saw the French League champions emerged victorious came from Argentine forward Angle Di Maria in the second half of the meeting.

However, a chance for the 31-year-old to grab a hat-trick in the match was denied by Mbappe, who forcefully took up the challenge of playing a penalty towards the end of the game.

The former Monaco striker ended up squandering the chance to increase PSG's goal tally to four goals before the end of the match after Marseille goalkeeper Yohann Pele saved the spot kick.

Meanwhile, despite the drama that ensued moments before the end of the match, Thomas Tuchel praised his players' mentality.

They crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the round of 16 after losing to Manchester United on away goals rule.

"Everyone can feel that this team is united, they are always together, they give everything," Tuchel said in his post-match interview according to Goal.

The team proves that she can react as a champion. The mentality is extraordinary. It's a great win in a big game.

I know my team, if you lose a big match, we lost one, you have to accept that everyone is talking. We must be quiet, be calm. It's hard, I will always defend my team, the boys are incredible."

The tactician further showered encomiums on both Mbappe and Di Maria, who were on target in the match saying: "Di Maria made an outstanding match,"he added.

He has a lot of responsibilities because we miss a lot of key players. Kylian and he take their responsibilities."

Legit.ng earlier reported that PSG boss Thomas Tuchel reveals his players have bounced back from their Champions League defeat against Premier League side Manchester United.

The Paris based club claimed 2-0 victory over the Red Devils in the first leg of their fixture but lost 3-1 to the same team in the second leg in France this month.

The club's fans however protested against the defeat at home against Manchester United which put manager Tuchel under serious pressure.
