The Clippers owner insisted he was not a racist but he also took time to blast NBA great Magic Johnson, blaming him for getting Aids back in the 1980's.
Magic Johnson had been one of the central characters of Sterling's rant, Magic had met Sterling's girlfriend V. Stiviano and took the picture with her which caused the epic rant.
Sterling said that Johnson (who is interested in buying the team) called him when the rant went public and told him to keep silent and allow him diffuse the situation but only went behind his back and made it worse.
Sterling says Johnson told him:
"I know the girl, don't do anything. I'll help you." I think he wanted me to just do nothing so he could buy the team,"
Sterling then went on to attack the former Los Angeles Lakers player's HIV status, saying :"What kind of a guy goes to every city, has sex with every girl, then he catches HIV? Is that someone we want to respect and tell our kids about? "I think he should be ashamed of himself. I think he should go into the background.
But what does he do for the black people? He doesn't do anything." What has he done? Can you tell me? Big Magic Johnson, what has he done?" Sterling said.
Sterling, who is jewish, then later alleged that Blacks don't help themselves but turn their back on their community when they make it, He said:
That's one problem I have. Jews, when they get successful, they will help their people, and some of the African-Americans -- maybe I'll get in trouble again – they don't want to help anybody," he said.
Cooper asked, "So are you saying that African-Americans don't contribute to African-American communities as much as Jewish people --" Sterling -- measured for much of the interview – cut Cooper off and snapped back. "There's no African-American –," he said, raising his voice. "Never mind, I don't know, I'm sorry. You know, they all want to play golf with me. Everybody wants to be with me. I'm easy. I'm fun."
Johnson Reacts
Magic Johnson later answered by twitter saying: "I'd rather be talking about these great NBA Playoffs than Donald Sterling's interview. After this week, no more Sterling talk. Just the NBA Playoffs".
