Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi went ahead to organise a private party shortly after receiving his seventh Ballon d’Or award on Monday night, November 29.

The 34-year-old scooped the 2021 accolade to extend his record to two gongs clear of his fiercest rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

That decision has generated a lot of criticism from a number of football legends who stated that Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski should have been handed the prestigious prize.

Messi was reportedly missing in PSG’s training on Tuesday after it was gathered that the superstar was ill having shown “symptoms of gastroenteritis”.

Mirror are reporting that the Argentine had a private party during Monday night following the awards ceremony.

The former Barcelona captain was said to have celebrated his title at a private event alongside his PSG teammates with many of the player’s wives present, including the partners of Ander Herrera, Leandro Paredes, Marquinhos and Sergio Rico.

His club the confirmed that the player, as well as his club and international teammate Paredes - is a doubt for their Ligue 1 fixture against Nice at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night due to illness.

A club statement read via GOAL:

"Lionel Messi and Leandro Paredes did not participate in the training session today due to symptoms of gastroenteritis.
"A further check will be made tomorrow morning."

Guardiola backs Messi over Ballon d’Or triumph

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed disappointment at critics who claim Lionel Messi should not have been awarded the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

France Football had, on Monday November 29, handed Messi a seventh Ballon d’or award, a decision which has generated lots of controversies among football fans.

But Guardiola who managed Messi during their time at Spanish club Barcelona insisted that no one can say it was unfair that the award went to Messi.

Muller not impressed that Messi was handed 2021 Ballon d'Or

Legit.ng earlier reported that Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller has lamented over French Football’s decision to award Lionel Messi the 2021 Ballon d’Or on November 29.

The German striker was not impressed after his club teammate Robert Lewandowski was ignored and the prestigious prize handed to former Barcelona captain Messi.

Messi extended his Ballon d’Or awards to seven and Muller blasted journalists who voted for the winner of the prestigious prize.
