Huge Blow for Super Eagles as another Key Player Set to be out AFCON 2022 After Undergoing Surgery

Victor Osimhen will be out of action for the next three months after undergoing surgery on his cheekbone, Goal, Napoli.

The Napoli striker was involved in a clash-of-heads with Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar during their Serie A match played at the San Siro.

The 22-year-old suffered multiple facial fractures as he was substituted in the 66th minute with his face dented.

Napoli's statement after Osimhen's surgery

Napoli released a statement that the former Lille star has undergone successful surgery where Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation.

“On Tuesday morning, Victor Osimhen was operated on his cheekbone and eye socket by Gianpaolo Tartaro, who was assisted by Dr Mario Santagata with Dr Raffaele Canonico also present.
“Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation. The player is doing well and will remain under observation for the next few days.
“Osimhen is expected to return to action in three months.”

This means that the Super Eagles man-of-the-moment will most likely miss the AFCON 2022 which kicks in February next year.

Osimhen has been a key figure for club and country scoring ten goals in nine matches for the national team.

On the other hand, the Lagos-born forward also has nine goals to his credit in all competition with five of them coming in the Italian top-flight division.

Osimhen given a cash prize of N2m for his man-of-the-match performance against Cape Verde

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Victor Osimhen was undoubtedly rewarded for his performance against Cape Verde as he was given the man-of-the-match award which came with a cash prize of N2m.

Osimhen also won the Most Valuable Player award and will get another one million naira for winning that.

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the first minute of the game as he sent the fans at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to rapturous celebrations.

The Napoli forward also put the Blue Sharks defence on their toes all through the game and forced a couple of saves from the goalkeeper.
