A former governor of Abia state Orji Uzor Kalu has disclosed that Gernot Rohr once applied to become manager of Nigeria Professional Football League club Enyimba, Guardian Nigeria reports.
Uzor Kalu who took to his Facebook page ranted about how Nigerian football has nosedived in the past five years since the German was appointed by NFF to become Super Eagles coach.
Nigeria managed to qualify for the World Cup playoffs, but Nigerians seem to have lost confidence in the manager as they call on his sack.
Venting his frustration as well, Orju Uzor Kalu who was governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007 lamented that he refused to employ the coach when he applied to become Enyimba coach.
He wrote:
“In the last five years we have wasted our time in football. There is nothing new we are doing any longer.
“To see a country with many professional players home and abroad struggling to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations’ and World Cup is heartbreaking. Gernot Rohr is not a good coach and I don't understand why he is still managing Super Eagles.
“When I was Governor, he applied to become employed as Enyimba coach. He was brought to Nigeria by Oscar Udoji but I refused to employ him. I am calling on the chairman of NFF, Mr Amaju Pinnick, to wake up and to quickly find a replacement for Rohr .

Football“We soccer lovers don't need further dissatisfaction in a game; we have the capacity to make ourselves proud.
“If the problems you have this year are the same problems you had last year, then you are not a leader. You are rather a problem on your own that must be solved.”
Rohr under pressure to resign
Legit.ng earlier reported that there are reports that Gernot Rohr is under pressure to resign as coach of the Super Eagles as Nigerians have lost confidence on the Franco-German tactician.
Strong indication has it that the Nigeria Football Federation hierarchy wants Rohr to resign his appointment after over five years on the job.
Rohr has been informed that he has lost the confidence of the players, media, fans and the entire Nigerians and the best option for him is to leave.
