There are reports that Gernot Rohr is under pressure to resign as coach of the Super Eagles as Nigerians have lost confidence on the Franco-German tactician, Premium Times reports.

The coach was signed in 2016 after the departure of former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh who resigned as the coach as at that time.

After five years with the Eagles, Rohr tutored the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at AFCON 2019 and failed to lead the team past the group stage of the 2018 World Cup.

It was gathered that Rohr earn a staggering $49, 000 as salary based on the contract extension he signed with the NFF in May 2020.

Amaju Pinnick, the NFF president, made this announcement at the time Guardian Nigeria:

“I’m happy to announce that the NFF and coach Gernot Rohr have concluded all contractual discussions and he will stay on as Coach of the Super Eagles.
“We have always had confidence in his abilities and we are confident that the national team can only go higher from here.”

That confidence looks to have been eroded by the abysmal performances of the team, especially in the 2022 World Cup qualifying series. The Eagles barely managed to keep their heads above water in a group that contained Liberia, Cape Verde, and the Central African Republic.

The Nations Cup kicks off in Cameroon on January 9

Legit.ng earlier reported that Victor Osimhen was undoubtedly rewarded for his performance against Cape Verde as he was given the man-of-the-match award which came with a cash prize of N1m.

Osimhen also won the Most Valuable Player award and will get another one million naira for winning that.

The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the first minute of the game as he sent the fans at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to rapturous celebrations.

The Napoli forward also put the Blue Sharks defence on their toes all through the game and forced a couple of saves from the goalkeeper as it ended 1-1.
