The game saw both sides produce a combined 41 fouls and the referee issued seven yellow cards - which should tell you just how feisty the encounter was.

Players from the two South American nations particularly turned up the heat when it came to skills as none was more outrageous than a rainbow flick from Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid forward, along with Argentina’s Di Maria, produced two of the most memorable moments that evening.

At the start of the second half, Di Maria embarrassed Vinicius Junior with a filthy nutmeg when he mercilessly flicked the all through the Brazilian star’s legs.

The nutmeg was clearly on Vinicius’s head after the incident, as the forward also got to briefly steal the show with a produced an expert rainbow flick close to the byline.

He teased Argentina's Nahuel Molina’s to the ball before flicking it and somehow managing to pass the ball to his team mate, but the chance went begging as both sides settled for a draw.

The 0-0 draw coupled with favourable results elsewhere meant both Argentina and Brazil secured their tickets to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“Joga Bonito is dead”

In September, Neymar expressed disappointment after Olympique Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta was shown a yellow card for his flamboyant skill on the pitch.

Paqueta, a Brazilian, was shown a yellow card for attempting the famous rainbow flick on an opponent.

In response, Neymar took to social media to lament, saying: "The same thing happened to me last season. This year, it's happened to Paqueta. Honestly, I don't understand the reasons. The famous 'Joga Bonito' [beautiful game] is over. Enjoy while it lasts.”
