Taiwo Awoniyo came in as a second-half substitute to inspire Union Berlin to a 3-1 Second Round Cup win over Waldhof Manheim, Goal, Fan Nation.

The Super Eagles striker has now scored in seven consecutive matches for the Bundesliga side as they progress to the next stage.

Summary of the game

Alexander Rossipal had put Manheim ahead in the fourth minute before Kevin Behrens equalized four minutes before half-time.

Awoniyi came on for Sheraldo Becker with less than 20 minutes left to play but the score remained 1-1 as the match was sent into extra time.

Two minutes into extra time the two-capped Nigerian international struck Grischa Promel's assist to make it 2-1.

Behrens completed his brace in the game as he put the match beyond doubt with two minutes left to play to make it 3-1.

Urs Fischer's side have now booked their place in the quarter-finals of the German Cup and will be confident going into their Bundesliga fixture against Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Union Berlin currently occupy fifth position on the league standings with Awoniyi the club's top leading goalscorer in all competitions with 12 strikes.
