Ex-Super Eagles Star Taribo West Discloses How He Caged Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry

Taribo West has finally responded to claims made by former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry who named the Nigerian defender as his toughest opponent on the field.

During his active playing time most especially in the Premier League, Thierry Henry was one of the best strikers in the world considering the super goals he scored for Arsenal.

But before moving to the Premier League, Thierry Henry played in France with Monaco where he was actually noticed, and as at time, Taribo West was also playing in the French League.

Thierry Henry who is now the assistant coach at Belgium national team stated clearly that Taribo West was so tough for him to attack then when he was at Monaco.

Thierry Henry's comment

“For direct opponent, I would go back in the days – Taribo West because at Auxerre, they did man-marking. He followed you everywhere, even in the dressing room.”

According to the report on Punch, Taribo West disclosed that Thierry Henry was a super striker adding that he never gave the Frenchman the breathing space.

Taribo West's comment

“During the time I played against him, Henry was a very good player, it was very difficult to mark him as a younger player because he had pace, knew how to dribble and could score good goals.
“But he never scored against me. I didn’t allow him to score because I never gave him breathing space.''

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Taribo West who played 42 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria has explained the rationale that made him dump football to become a clergyman claiming that he had one on one encounter with God.

During his active playing time, Taribo West was one of the best Nigerian defenders considering his his styles of play for the Super Eagles.

Taribo West explained that he was in the middle of celebration before the incident that turned him to pastor came.

He actually started his football career at defunct Obanta United before moving to Sharks (now Rivers United) in 1990 even though he spent only one season at the Port Harcourt side.
