Fred, who has been a mainstay figure in the United team missed the King Power Stadium trip after featuring in Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Uruguay earlier on Friday, October 14.

While the Brazilian has often come under sharp criticism from fans due to his performances, Solskjaer contends his absence had a bearing in the Red Devils' disappointing performance away from home.

Speaking after the encounter, the Norwegian added his side missed Edison Cavani who was also involved in the Uruguay fixture.

"I have got many good players. Fred, Edinson Cavani, you miss them. I am not making excuses for the team I put out there, they are top footballers and we have not produced," he said.

Solskjaer made five changes from the side that was held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Everton before the international break during the King Power Stadium trip.

However, the new-look team was unable to contain a resilient Leicester who sprung into action shortly after Mason Greenwood handed the visitors the deal before the 20th-minute mark.

Youri Tielemans cancelled out Greenwood's opener in the 31st minute before Caglar Soyuncu handing the home side the lead in the 78th minute.

Returning Marcus Rashford appeared to have snatched a point for the Red Devils, only for Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka to score late to steer the Foxes to victory.

Man United board backs Solskjaer despite defeat to Leicester

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly has the full backing of Man United despite the club's recent poor run of results.

With just weeks into the new season, pressure is already mounting on Solskjaer to quit, with a section of fans suggesting he should be axed in the wake of the club's 4-2 defeat to Leicester.

After what appeared as progress under Ole, the Norwegian was handed a lucrative new deal in the summer and was heavily backed in the transfer window with Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho all joining.

While United did mark the start of the campaign impressively, their form deteriorated significantly in recent weeks, managing just two wins in their last seven matches across competitions.

The development comes at a time the Red Devils are scheduled for unfavourable fixtures in the coming days including matches against rivals Liverpool and Man City.

Reacting to his side's defeat to Leicester, Solskjaer appeared to take responsibility for the loss but was also quick to admit his wards were poor.
