Raphael Varane is edging closer to becoming a Manchester United player after arriving at the club's training base.

The French defender has been a long-term transfer target for the Red Devils who recently managed to secure his services.

While he has not been officially unveiled at United, reports suggest his move is inching closer as he set to have his medical.

According to Metro UK, visa, paperwork, and isolation issues have delayed his official unveiling despite United announcing back in July a deal to sign him had been reached.

It now remains to be seen if the World Cup-winning defender will be started when the Red Devils take on Leeds United in their Premier League curtain-raiser on Saturday, August 14.

It is understood he will be eligible to make the squad if he is registered by the evening of Wednesday, August 13.

Speaking after Saturday’s resounding 4-0 win over Everton in their pre-season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said:

"The medical with Raphael [still] has to be done."
"He’s isolating at the moment. He had to wait for visas, so unfortunately that took a few more days than expected but we’re going to follow the protocols and the rules, so it’s taken a few more days than we hoped for," he added.

Tammy Abraham included in Chelsea squad

Tammy Abraham is in Chelsea’s squad for the UEFA Super cup despite numerous rumors linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, the Champions League winners last season, face Europa League winners Villareal on Wednesday, August 11, and boss Thomas Tuchel remained coy about Tammy Abraham’s situation amid the impending arrival of Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku is on the verge of being named a Chelsea player for the second time in his career after the Blues agreed a massive deal with Inter Milan.

Man City to hand contract extension to some players

Legit.ng earlier reported that Premier League club Manchester City are already preparing contract extensions for some players ahead of the start of the new campaign.

The Etihad outfit handed John Stones an improved contract worth £250,000-a-week which will see him remain there until 2026.

Following the exit of Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich, City are now targeting a more proactive approach to their players' futures.
