Neves is understood to be aware of Arsenal's interest in him and has reportedly informed his teammates of his willingness to complete a switch to the Emirates.

The Sun, meanwhile, claim Wolves will not stand in the way of Neves should he push for an exit and are even ready to listen to offers for the Portuguese.

Neves is expected to afford Arteta options in the middle of the park once the deal is completed.

Currently, Arsenal's midfield is depleted especially after the exit of Dani Ceballos who returned to Real Madrid after the expiry of his loan spell with the north London club.

Arteta's side face the prospect of losing even more players during the transfer window, with Granit Xhaka continually linked with a departure.

Arteta was named Gunners boss as a replacement for Unai Emery who had been sacked at the time.

The former midfielder had impressed as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Man City to convince Arsenal hierarchy he was the right man for the job.
