Argentina national team on Thursday night, June 3, honored their late football legend Diego Maradona with a giant statue before their encounter against Chile which ended 1-1.

Diego Maradona was one of the greatest strikers in the world during his active playing time as he helped his nation to win the FIFA World Cup in 1986.

The Hand of God goal Diego Maradona scored against England in the World Cup cannot be forgotten among football fans and pundits who always refer to the incident when talking about the Argentine.

On November 25, 2020, football fraternities in the world were thrown into mourning following the demise of Diego Maradona who was said to have suffered heart failure before he passed on.

According to the video posted by GOAL, Messi and his teammates gathered before their match against Chile to unveil the statue which features Maradona standing tall with a ball at his feet.

The team also wore No.10 kits before the game in honour of the legendary super player who played for the likes of Boca Juniors, Napoli and Barcelona.

And in their game against Chile, captain Lionel Messi scored for Argentina via a penalty in the 23rd minute with the hope that they would win the tie.

However, former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez restored parity for Chile in the 36th minute after an assist by Gary Medel as the game ended in draw.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how latest reports have it that £5million (about N2.5billion) was found in the bank accounts of late Diego Maradona which he left for his children.

It was gathered that Maradona had told his close friends before he died that he had around £75m (about N37.5billion).

Varying figures of what he left behind has emerged on several occasions, but acing lawyer to his youngest son Diego Fernando admitted the former footballer’s fortune as he laid bare the former footballer’s problem financial situation.

Investigations into the unfortunate death of the legend is beginning to take shape as two nurses and a psychologist were allegedly part of the plot.
