Villarreal star, Samuel Chukwueze, couldn't contain his joy after his side defeated Manchester United on penalties to emerge Europa League champions this season.

The 22-year-old was not named in the squad for the La Liga side as he was considered not fit for the game of such magnitude.

Recall that the Super Eagles forward suffered an injury setback in their semifinal first-leg win over Arsenal in Spain. However, he did not recover in time to feature in the second leg nor the final.

In spite of his absence, the Yellow Submarine conquered their Premier League counterpart and lifted the title at the end of the overstretched encounter.

After their triumph, the winger took to social media via Instagram live broadcast from his phone to shower encomium on the fans for their support before, and after the game.

Chukwueze had started trending particularly on Twitter with many praying that he should follow in the path laid down by Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi by winning the FA Cup this term.

The enterprising attacker in his appreciation to his countrymen across the world said:

"Omo, I too love Nigerians, the way they support me today. Just imagine I no come from Nigeria, this world for no sweet at all. Nigeria to the world."

Chukwueze made 11 Europa League appearances - scoring once and assisting four other goals on their way to glory in the 2020-21 campaign.

Meanwhile, he has been attracting attention from top European clubs despite having a deal with Villarreal until the summer of 2023.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Spanish League giants Villarreal have emerged Europa League champions after beating Manchester United 11-10 on penalties.

The game was settled by the spot kicks after both sides played a 1-1 draw in the regulation period with Gerard Moreno and Edinson Cavani scoring for either side.

Moreno opened the scoring for the La Liga team one minute before the half-hour mark as the duo of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly were caught off guard by the attacker.
