Breaking: Atletico Madrid dethrone Real Madrid to win La Liga title in dramatic last day round of matches

- Atletico Madrid vs Real Valladolid ended 2-1 as Rojiblancos were crowned champions of Spain

- Diego Simeone's men came back from a goal down to defeat Valladolid away from home in a tense match

- The Madrid based club have now won 11 title in their history and three of them came under Simeone

Atletico Madrid won their 11th La Liga title following their 2-1 comeback win against Real Valladolid who also got relegated from the Spanish topflight division.

The Rojiblancos won their third league title under their manager Diego Simeone but had to wait until the last matchday to confirm their status as champions of Spain.

Real Madrid also came back from a goal down to defeat Villarreal 2-1 but it was not enough to confirm Los Blancos to retain their title.

Oscar Plano put Valladolid ahead in the 15th minute as their hopes of surviving the drop received a massive boost.

But At the Alfredo di Stefano, there were good news for Simeone's side as Villarreal got their noses in from following a strike from Yeremi Pino in the 20th minute.

Karim Benzema thought he had drawn his team level with a 55th minute header but the VAR spotted the France international in an offside position.

owever, Angel Correa equalized for Atletico at the Jose Zorrilla stadium in the 57th minute to put their title hopes back on track.

Ten minutes later Luis Suarez put the icing on the cake following a defensive blunder in the Valladolid defence. The Uruguayan finished off the move with ease to make it 2-1

Real finally got back into the game in the 87th minute as Benzema was given time and space to side-foot his effort home to make it 1-1.

Luca Modric's deflected shot in injury time put Madrid ahead by 2-1 but it was not enough as Ateltico held on for the win at Valladolid to be crowned champions

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Zinedine Zidane has distanced himself from the reports linking him to an exit from Real Madrid this summer.

The Frenchman made the comment after Los Blancos' 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames over the weekend with Nacho Fernandez scoring the only goal.

This however means that the title race will be decided on the final day as Real are two points behind table-toppers Atletico Madrid who have 83.
