With Lionel Messi’s contract ending at the end of the season, reports claim Premier League club Manchester City may no longer be interested in the star.

Spanish outlet Sport had reported that the Citizens are already looking elsewhere instead of making a move for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Brazilian legend Rivaldo claims City are only bluffing that they are no longer interested - saying the opposite could actually be the case.

He said:

"The press is reporting that City have given up on signing Messi for next season, but I always have my doubts about these types of stories.
"Generally, when a club dismisses speculation about a transfer target it actually means the opposite, with the club remaining interested and just making a strategical bluff.
"I'm pleased to see Messi looking more relaxed on the pitch again and getting back to playing his best football.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona are reportedly planning to make a move for Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez if they fail to seal a deal for Erling Haaland this summer.

The Catalans lost Luis Suarez to Spanish League rivals Atletico Madrid after the arrival of Ronald Koeman last August.

However, the financial crisis caused by the deadly coronavirus has denied the Nou Camp outfit a chance to secure the services of another top star.

With Haaland expected to cost the Blaugrana a fortune if they decide to go for him, the La Liga side is now expected to re-ignite interest in the Argentine forward.

Dortmund will only listen to offers in the range of £150million before they can allow their man to leave before the expiration of his deal with them.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Paris Saint Germain have reportedly jumped in the chase to sign free agent Sergio Aguero at the end of this season.

The Argentine has already confirmed he will leave the Etihad Stadium outfit this summer - ending his 10-year reign at the club.

His decision has alerted his admirers who are already planning to make a move for the prolific goals scorer once his deal expires.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Catalans have already opened up negotiations with the Argentine and they are making him an alternative for Memphis Depay.
