Manchester City ace Sergio Aguero is reportedly closing in on a switch to Spanish club Barcelona as chances of him moving to Spain increase.

Reports cited in Mirror have it that the Argentine striker is close to agreeing a two-year-deal with the Catalan giants and might likely move during the summer.

The player’s progress at Manchester City has been marred by injury spells but he scored his first Premier League goal of the season in his side’s 3-0 win over Fullham.

He has so far spent 10 years at the Etihad and will likely complete this campaign before his switch to join national teammate Lionel Messi.

According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, new Barcelona president Joan Laporta has moved quickly to get in contact with Aguero.

And he, along with City defender Eric Garcia, looks set to make a move to Catalonia in the near future.

The signing of Aguero would also be a popular move with Lionel Messi, who is known to be close with his fellow Argentinean.

With the election of Joan Laporta as the new president of the club, Barcelona’s chances of getting Messi to extend his contract has improved.

The Argentine has been at the club since the age of 15 and reports say the player also voted Laporta who has also promised he would ensure Messi does not leave if he is elected.

Laporta became the cub's president for a second time after sweeping more than half of the votes in the recently held elections.

However, there are no guarantees yet that the outcome of the election would secure Messi's future at the Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Rio Ferdinand has urged Chelsea to snap up Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund to help them challenge the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Ferdinand made the suggestion after the Blues were held to a disappointing goalless draw against Leeds United on Saturday, March 13, to stumble in their top-four race.

The match saw the west Londoners miss the services of key strikers upfront, including Tammy Abraham who is out injured.

With both Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud starting from the bench, Kai Havertz was tasked with the responsibility of leading the goal hunt.
