La Blaugrana are currently in huge financial crisis as their debt is understood to be more than £1billion.

With a few months left to the end of Messi's contract with Barca, it is expected that the club captain and his father would have talks with the management later in the month.

The Catalan giants are expected to persuade the 33-year-old to end his career at the Camp Nou.

According to SunSport, Laporta will have to promise the Argentine to land series of top names in the game before he commits his future to the club.

Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 by Paris Saint-Germain and the previous campaign by Bayern Munich.

Ronald Koeman's men are still in contention for the Copa del Rey La Liga title after cutting short Atletico Madrid's lead at the top to three points and overtaking rivals Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Ronald Koeman has insisted that Lionel Messi's future is still with Barcelona despite crashing out of the Champions League, Mirror.

Paris Saint-Germain got the better of the Spanish club with a 5-2 aggregate scoreline at the last 16 stages of the competition.

And Koeman believes it is not the end of the road for Messi's career at the Camp Nou as the club are still in contention for La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies this season.
