The 23-year-old failed to create any chance but managed just one shot on target during his time on the pitch.

And he looked frustrated and sad after he was been taken off for Fernandes and he made his way over before giving Solskjaer a half-hearted handshake

BBC Sport commentator Jermaine Jenas tried to explain what went wrong at half-time.

"It's a bit better from Donny van de Beek but it still feels like everything is taking a bit too long.
"You have to be careful not to try and think Van de Beek can do what Bruno Fernandes can do. He's his own type of player.
"I think Van de Beek is still working out of what he is for Manchester United. I'd still like him to want the ball a bit more.
"Maybe have a shot instead of passing it back or passing it sideway. This United do not look for him, which is a bit of an issue."

The Red Devils grabbed an extra-time winner through Scott McTominay as they made it through into the last eight.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United on Tuesday night, February 9, had to wait until the extra time before beating visiting West Ham United 1-0 in the FA Cup 5th round which sent them to the last eight of the championship thanks to a goal by Scott McTominay.

Ole Solskjaer and his men went into this game following their disappointing draw at home against Everton in the Premier League and they needed to get redeem themselves.

The Red Devils started this encounter on a brighter note looking for the early goal, but West Ham United goalie Lukasz Fabianski was superb in his department.
