Chelsea have reportedly identified Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers as a possible replacement for Frank Lampard should they decide to sack the Englishman.

Lampard is currently fighting to save his job at Stamford Bridge after leading the Blues to a disappointing string of poor performances.

Chelsea have won just one of their last five Premier League matches in a frustrating run of results that has seen them drop to eighth on the standings.

According to stats, the west Londoners have slipped seven places on the charts in a space of just six weeks to leave Lampard under immense pressure.

Metro UK reports whereas Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen to see the former midfielder succeed as manager, he is slowly running out of patience with the club legend having spent over £200m to sign an array of players as suggested by Lampard.

The publication citing Daily Mirror further reports Chelsea could be left with no choice but to replace the former Derby boss should he fail to turn around the Stamford Bridge dwellers' fortunes.

His counterpart Brendan Rodgers has since been identified as his possible successor, with reports suggesting Blues' hierarchy has been impressed with the Leicester manager.

Rodgers has enjoyed a successful start to life since his arrival at the King Power Stadium and almost led the Foxes to Champions League qualification last term.

The side currently sit third on the log with 38 points, just two behind leaders Man United after another bright start to the campaign.

Despite his future coming under sharp focus, Lampard has said he will ignore the runours on being potentially sacked and focus on helping his wards rediscover their form.

Chelsea are due to take on Wolves in their next league match, before hosting relegation-threatened Burnley on Sunday, January 31.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Chelsea qualified into the 5th Round of the FA Cup after a hard-earned 3-1 victory over Luton Town at Stamford Bridge.
