- Lionel Messi has reiterated his commitment to Spanish giants Barcelona saying he will fight for everything
- The team captain's contract will lapse at the end of the ongoing campaign
- Messi says he has spoken with Pep Guardiola but will decide his future during the summer
Lionel Messi, in his latest tell-all interview, has disclosed that he has spoken with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola while also providing an update about his future.
The Barcelona captain who had tendered his transfer request at the Catalan club during the summer was forced to make a U-turn after the club cited a clause in his contract.
He also admitted that situation at the Spanish club is worrisome, but he will do everything to fight for the club.
He told La Sexta TV as cited in SunSport:
"I'm excited even though the club is going through difficult times. These are difficult times, as for everyone.
"The club is really bad, very bad, it will be difficult to get back to where we were."
His contract lapses at the end of this campaign and amid links with Premier League club Manchester City, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner says he has spoken with Pep Guardiola.
"I don't know when I last got a message from Pep (Guardiola) but we have spoken, yes.
"About how things are, how he's doing at Manchester City, how things are going here. For me, he's the best coach."
His contract terms allow him to begin negotiations with other clubs in January, but the Argentine playmaker insists that he will make a decision during the summer. He added:
"I'm not negotiating as a free agent with any club.
"As I said, I have nothing clear until the end of the season. Let's see how we do this season and what happens."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Real Madrid are reportedly considering a bid for Manchester City ace Phil Foden who has not really played first-team matches in recent times.
It was gathered that despite Pep Guardiola claiming the midfielder will become a major force at City, Real Madrid are hoping to take advantage of the player’s lack of playtime, to sign him.
Foden only had a chance to play a few seconds in Manchester City’s 2-0 home win over Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, December 26.
Although he has been in fine form in the Champions’ League group games this season, Foden seems to be struggling in the English top-flight and Guardiola has promised the player will bounce back.
