Mohamed Salah’s first-minute strike against Midtjylland in the Champions League has seen the Egyptian become Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer in the competition with 22.

The Egyptian playmaker found the back of the net inside 55 seconds to take his tally to 22 and above club legend Steven Gerrard who has 21.

That goal is also Liverpool's fastest in the elite competition as he now has one more than the former team captain.

It was however not enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to claim all three points as it ended 1-1 after the hosts restored parity via the penalty spot.

The Reds went into the dead rubber encounter with little or no pressure as they had already qualified for the knockout stages, but wanted to finish their last game on a winning note.

In the BT Sport studio, former Liverpool striker, Peter Crouch, alluded to the Champions League record when talking about Salah's early goal. Crouch said:

"He (Salah) didn't really have it under control, he's breaking records, highest Champions League scorer. He'll take it!"

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand added:

"Little bit of fortune with the first goal but you need to be there to bobble it in."

His teammates, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are towards the top of the goalscoring leaderboard too, with the Senegalese on 17 goals and the Brazilian on 15 goals.

Also, Salah is now on the verge of beating rivals Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi as well as the legendary Ronaldinho to the player of the century award.

The 28-year-old is said to be leading with the highest number of votes which is currently 54 percent, while Cristiano Ronaldo is second on the table with 27 percent.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea are among teams who will be seeded for the Champions League round of 16 draws on Monday, December 14 in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Blues confirmed their place in the knockout stage of the competition having finished top of Group E with 14 points.

The side booked their place with a game to spare, thanks to their huge win over Sevilla in match week five before holding Krasnodar to a 1-1 draw in their last fixture to maintain their unbeaten run in the European tournament.
