Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona remains uncertain despite having less than one year left on his current deal with Barcelona.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner for the first time in the summer told the Catalan club he wanted to leave but later changed his mind after so much consideration.

He was however linked with several top European clubs but Manchester City and Inter Milan appear very convincing.

Three months have now passed since he hinted about his exit from the Nou Camp, it is unsure of the Argentine forward would be extending his reign at his present club, or join a new one.

With his current situation, Messi can speak with interested clubs when the January transfer window opens a few weeks from now but nothing is certain for now.

Meanwhile, former Man City defender Pablo Zabaleta wishes his countryman would consider joining the Etihad Stadium outfit if he decides to leave Barca next summer.

Although he prays the 33-year-old settles the issue currently facing him which has led to some quarters criticising his output on the pitch. Zabaleta told Marca during an interview, saying:

"I know that Messi must not be enjoying this situation right now.
"He must just be thinking about what is best for the future and getting the club back on track to win trophies. I don't know the plans for City and Messi's idea.
"The best thing for him is to focus on the current situation. If he has to change clubs, I would be very happy if City were chosen."

Zabaleta who recently hanged his international boots after representing West Ham United for three seasons added:

"There was always a link between Barcelona and Leo that we never imagined could be stretched to this point.
"Everything seems to be uncertain because of his future, and at an institutional level Barcelona are in a complicated situation.
"There are several things that mean that Leo is not going through a moment of happiness. Where he is happy is [on the] pitch.
"Messi is a winner and a competitor; he wants the best for Barcelona. I wish him all the happiness he can find [and] we'll see if he can find it at Barcelona."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi constantly make the headlines on daily basis owing to their lifestyles on and off the pitch.

Their records and achievements are so enormous that their various fans have continued to make comparisons between them.

While the Portuguese star has the highest number of Champions League titles in the history of the competition, Messi is the only player with six Ballon d'Or awards.
