Frenkie de Jong has insisted that Lionel Messi remains the best player in the world and the rest of the team should play to his strength, Daily Mail.

The Barcelona captain is yet to fully adapt to Ronald Koeman's 4-2-3-1 formation which has restricted his goal tally this season to just two in six matches.

De Jong believes if their talisman receives the in the right positions it would improve his scoring chances on every game.

The Dutch midfielder told UEFA.com:

"When you have Messi in your team, of course you have the best player in the world in your team.
"You try to get him into the best positions to make a difference and I think we need to adapt to him. When he is receiving the ball in a position where he can make the difference, he will make it for you, always."

The former Ajax star struggled to hit top form in his first season at the Camp Nou but things seem to have changed under the new manager.

The 23-year-old has recorded good statistics this season playing alongside Sergio Busquets in the heart of the midfield, averaging successful dribbles.

Barcelona will take on Juventus in their next Champions League game after their loss to Real Madrid in the first El Clasico.

La Blaugrana are rooted to 12th in the league having played fewer matches in La Liga this season with two out of five matches.
