Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the list of athletes who paid tribute to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after his successful title defence against Justin Gaethje.
The Eagle submitted the American with a triangle choke in the second round in their UFC 254 main event that took place at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
Khabib who stepped into the Octagon for the first time since he lost his father earlier in the year announced his retirement after the fight.
Ronaldo predicted a win for Khabib congratulated the Russian fighter on his Twitter handle and said:
"Congrats bro! Your father is proud of you."
Khabib's biggest rival at the lightweight division Conor McGregor also extended a hand of friendship on his tweet:
"Good performance @TeamKhabib.
"I will carry on. Respect and condolences on your father again also. To you and family. Yours sincerely, The McGregors."
Undefeated light heavyweight champion Jon Jones also congratulated the Dagestan born fighter:
"I want to congratulate Khabib for an outstanding career.
"I know he made his father along with millions of fans around the world incredibly proud today. May God continue to bless him on his journey."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Khabib Nurmagomedov has cemented his name in UFC's Hall of Fame following his second-round stoppage of Justin Gaethje.
The lightweight champion made his fight over the hard-hitting Gaethje look easy as he submitted the American via a triangle in the second round.
Khabib who recorded his 28th victory without a defeat in Mixed Martial Arts immediately fell to the ground in tears as he mourned his father who passed on earlier in the year due to illness.
Legit.ng also reported that Israel Adesanya successfully defended his middleweight crown after a second-round stoppage of Paulo Costa.
The Last Style Bender dominated the first round delivering several leg kicks that caused damage on Costa's left leg.
The Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter finished the bout in the second round after catching Costa with a leg kick in the face and floored him with several punches.
