Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has released the starting line-up that will prosecute the October 9 friendly match against the Desert Foxes of Algeria, Complete Sports reports.

Everton’s Alex Iwobi as well as Samuel Chukwueze will start the game billed to hold at the prestigious Jacques Lemans Arena Die Zeit in St. Veit, Austria.

It was also gathered that FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi is picked ahead of Jamilu Collins for the left-back position, while Tyronne Ebuehi will occupy the right-back position.

However, Nigeria will be without regular players including Oghenekaro Etebo, Wilfred Ndidi and Joe Aribo who have all be exempted from the schedule.

Nigeria have not played any international match since their 4-2 home win against Lesotho in November 2019 and Gernot Rohr’s side, having won their first two games in Group L, lead the group with six points

The friendly against Algeria is more interesting because the North Africans defeated the Eagles in the 2019 AFCON semifinals after Riyad Mahrez struck in a freekick in the last second as they went on to winning the tournament.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) denied a report that some members of the Super Eagles squad tested positive for coronavirus barely hours before their friendly match against Algeria.

The NFF tweeted:

“The writer of the story, who was not part of the press conference earlier today (Thursday, October 8), totally misrepresented what coach Rohr said that since the outbreak of the pandemic, four of our players had tested positive, but were all now fully recovered from the virus and back in action."
