RB Leipzig Defender Dayot Upamecano has reportedly emerged priority transfer target for Premier League giants Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils are pursuing a move for the Frenchman after winning the race to land Ajax Donny Van de Beek on a five-year deal valued around £40 million.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now hoping to complete the signing of the 21-year-old France international in the next coming days.
The Mirror quoting ESPN, the Norwegian wants the defender in his squad to provide a solid partner for Harry Maguire when competition resumes next season.
He featured for the Bundesliga side 38 times and provided two assists across competitions last campaign. He contributed to his side Champions League quest before crashing out at the semifinal stage.
Arsenal are other Premier League top club interested was recently signed an extension to remain at the club until June 2023.
After Man United's defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League, club legend Paul Scholes said Upamecano would be expected to be a dominant centre-half alongside Maguire.
"I think they could do with a centre half, I've said that all along," he said.
"I'm not sure Lindelof going to be good enough as a partner for Maguire. I think they need a dominant defender next to him.
"Defensively, the full-backs are OK. On the ball, you'd have to question but defensively they're OK.
"I think the defensive record over the last 15, 20 games has been very good, probably one of the best in the league so you have to take that into respect as well.
"But I still think a dominant centre-half next to Maguire, just to cover for the slight weaknesses he has."
